Whiskey Tasting & Cigars for a Bachelor Party in Sofia
Whiskey Tasting & Cigars
A sommelier runs the room: 4 whiskeys, poured one at a time, each one explained before anybody drinks it. The setting is a gentleman's lounge built for sitting still, with a cigar list at the bar you buy from yourself. It takes 2 to 3 hours, and the slow pace is the point.
Build your partyWhat's included
- A whiskey sommelier who pours and pairs spirits for a living
- 4 whiskeys poured for the group, included in what you pay
- A wide cigar list at the venue, bought separately at the bar
- A gentleman's lounge with leather seating and the light kept low
- Guidance on how to taste a spirit and how to handle a cigar
- A list of whiskeys and cigars worth tracking down once you are home
Why groups book with us
- Sofia locals doing the planning
- One fixed quote for the whole trip
- The same planner from start to finish
- An itinerary you can still change
- Direct reservations with every venue
- Everything handled once you land
What you'll do
- Whiskey tasting technique - Nose the glass first, then sip, then say out loud what you found. Taking it in that order is what separates tasting from drinking.
- Cigar craft and selection - What goes into a premium cigar, which one on the list suits somebody smoking their first, and how long it should take to get through it.
- Whiskey and cigar pairings - The same whiskey is tasted against different cigars, so you find out for yourself which pair lifts both and which one flattens them.
- Palate training - The later pours are the harder ones. Tasted back to back, they make the distance between a serious bottle and a supermarket one obvious.
- The gentleman's lounge - Somebody who knows the list decides what is poured and in what order, so nobody in the group is guessing at a menu of expensive bottles.
What you'll need to bring
- An interest in what is in the glass, not how much of it
- An open mind about whiskeys you would never have ordered
- Enough patience to make one pour last
- A little respect for how slowly this is meant to be done

Whiskey and cigars in Sofia: the sommelier, the pairings and the room
Whiskey and cigars reward the group that wants to know what it is drinking rather than how fast it can drink. Both are easy to get wrong on your own, and expensive when you do. With a sommelier in the room the intimidating part goes: you are told what to look for, you find it, and the price on the bottle stops being the only clue to quality.
The pairing is what separates this from four drinks in a nice bar. One whiskey next to the wrong cigar tastes flat, and next to the right one it opens up. Learn the reason once and it applies to every glass you pour afterward, which is more than most bookings on a bachelor weekend leave you with.
The venue does as much work as the list. These lounges exist for exactly this: leather seating, the light kept low, and quiet enough that your group can talk without shouting over a bar.
What the group takes away outlasts the trip. You leave able to order a whiskey and choose a cigar without guessing, and for some of the guys that turns into a hobby rather than a story. Not much booked for a few days abroad keeps paying out that way.
Nothing here has to be kept up with. No round to match, no schedule pressing, nobody keeping score. The talking is what fills the time, and by the end everybody has a favorite they are ready to argue for.

Whiskey Tasting & Cigars FAQs
The questions groups ask before they book.
1. Do we need to know anything about whiskey first?
No. The session is built for people who have never tried it: the sommelier starts at what whiskey is made from, and the technique gets finer as the pours go on. A collector and a first-timer take the same amount out of it.
2. How much whiskey is actually poured?
4 pours, in tasting measures rather than full glasses. That is enough to judge each whiskey and each pairing, and not enough to lose your palate before the last one.
3. Is expensive whiskey worth the money?
The money buys craftsmanship, traditional production and flavors with more layers in them. Knowing how to drink it, which is what the sommelier is there for, is the rest of the value.
4. Are the cigars a health concern?
One cigar at a tasting is a different thing from a smoking habit. Everybody in the group decides how far to take part.
5. How long does the tasting run?
2 to 3 hours. That takes in the 4 pours, the cigars, the pairing work and the teaching, and none of it is hurried.
6. Can we buy the whiskeys and cigars we tried?
Most venues sell what they pour. Set against import prices at home, the same bottle usually costs less here.
7. What is the dress code?
Smart casual. The venues are upmarket, and the room is dressed to match what is being poured in it.
8. Is this only for men?
It comes out of a male tradition, and that is still mostly who books it. Women who take whiskey seriously get the same evening out of it.
