What you'll do
- Ground school - Weather, navigation and the safety rules come first. Nobody sits in the aircraft until that part is done.
- Aircraft inspection - The instructor takes you around the aircraft and through the checks a pilot makes before every flight.
- Hands on the controls - You fly the takeoff, the turns and level flight yourself. The landing is sometimes yours as well, and the instructor supervises all of it.
- Over Sofia and the countryside - The route crosses the city and the open country beyond it. You handle basic navigation and the radio calls to air traffic control.
- Logbook and certificate - The flight is written into a logbook and signed. That entry is official, and it stays valid if anyone carries on training.

- Concentration for the technical parts and the safety briefing
- Comfortable clothes for a small cockpit seat and some movement in the air

Pilot lesson in Sofia: training, aircraft and paperwork
This is a lesson, so you sit in the pilot's seat and fly the exercises yourself.
The aircraft has dual controls, so you feel it respond when you move them, and the instructor beside you can take over in a second.
Ground school and the flight together show you what flying an aircraft involves, and some people go on to book more lessons.
Each of the guys takes his turn in the pilot's seat and gets the same lesson.
The logbook entry is signed at the end of the flight and counts as an official record if anyone goes on to train for a license.

1. Is any flying experience needed for a pilot lesson?
None at all. Everything starts from the beginning, in order, and the instructor teaches each part before you use it. Complete beginners are the normal case here.
2. How much of the flying does each person do?
Most of it. You take off, you fly the maneuvers, and the landing is sometimes yours too, with the instructor supervising.
3. What happens if someone freezes at the controls?
The instructor takes the controls back the moment someone is uncomfortable or confused, and sets the rest of the lesson to suit him.
4. Does a pilot lesson have medical requirements?
Basic ones. The standard is roughly a driving license: no serious condition that affects judgment or coordination.
5. How does a pilot lesson compare with a flight simulator?
In a real aircraft the air moves you around, the controls take physical coordination, and you feel what the aircraft is doing through the seat.
6. What does ground school cover before the flight?
Weather reading, navigation basics, the aircraft's systems, emergency procedures and radio protocol.
7. Does the logbook entry count toward a pilot's license?
Yes. That entry is an official record, so a flight school can count it when someone starts full training later on.
8. How long does the pilot lesson take?
From arrival to leaving, 2 to 3 hours. The lesson itself runs 60 to 90 minutes, ground school and flight time together, and the rest goes on preparation before takeoff and the debrief afterward.
9. What happens if the weather is unsafe for flying?
Flight training has fixed weather minimums. If the day does not meet them, your lesson moves to another day.
